Angostura Limited, a globally competitive company, was established in 1824. It’s signature product, Angostura® aromatic bitters, was named after the town in Venezuela where it was first created by J. G. B. Siegert, surgeon general in Simon Bolivar’s Army at the time. Initially created as an elixir, the product eventually became famous worldwide as a flavour enhancer for cocktails and food alike.

In 1875, the House of Angostura was relocated to Trinidad, and by the turn of the century the company began experimenting with rum. It is now one of the Caribbean’s leading rum producers with internationally recognised rum brands. Well known local rum brands include White Oak, Royal Oak, Forres Park Puncheon, Fernandes Black Label and Single Barrel Reserve. Internationally Angostura has won awards for its premium rums - Angostura 1824, (12 year old) and Angostura 1919 rum; and for its standard rums- Angostura 7 year old, Angostura 5 year old, and Angostura Reserva rum.

Besides being a Royal Warrant holder to the Queen of England for its Angostura® aromatic bitters, the company has achieved BSI’s ISO 9002 certification for quality standards and the environmental management standard ISO 14001 certification. Its Laboratory has also received accreditation for chemical testing from the Trinidad and Tobago Laboratory Accreditation Service, making it the first manufacturing company in the region to obtain such an accreditation.
